Dean Lokomaikai Kanahele of Kekaha, Kauai, passed away in Lihue, Kauai, on September 15, 2026, at the age of 53. He was born in Waimea, Kauai, on March 9, 1973. Dean worked as a maintenance worker for ABM Industries.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Blossom Hiilei Niau; his father, Asela Mikaela Kanahele; his brother, Walter Kalaweloilehua Kanahele; his sister, Genoa K. Kanahele; and his granddaughter, Hope Bissara.

Dean is survived by his wife, Destiny Kanahele; his sons, Brennan Lokomaika’i Kanahele-Castillo and Christian (Aisha) Michael Kaheinoeauonalani Kanahele-Castillo; his daughters, Lahela (Justin) Christine Kanahele-Castillo, Lexi Jahnoah Leilani Kanahele, and Makenna Kanahele-Castillo; his grandchildren Brayson Asela Kanahele, Jaybree Mahina Kanahele, Kyrie Valente, and Treslyn Bissara; his brother, Asela (Ramona) Naninoeauonalani Kanahele; his sisters, Valentina Kealalauaeomakana Kanahele, and Heidi Mana’o’i’o K. Kanahele; as well as numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at Garden Island Mortuary in Lawai. Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM, with services to follow at 6:00 PM. The family requests aloha attire and flowers are welcome.
