Lillian Yuriko Kunioka Takanishi of Lihue, Hawaii, passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on September 28, 2026, at the age of 91. She was born in Koloa, Kauai, on May 19, 1935. Lillian was a dedicated educator and retired teacher from Eleele School.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenso Takanishi; her parents, Saburo and Ayano Kunioka; and sister-in-law, Glorian Kunioka.

Lillian is survived by her daughters, Kendra (Glenn Kawamura) Takanishi of Kalaheo, Kauai and Kendace (Franklin) Taylor of Los Angeles, California; her brothers, John Kunioka of Rosemead, California, and Charles (Sharon) Kunioka of Pukalani, Maui; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be held on Friday, November 20, 2026, at Hanapepe United Church of Christ. Visitation will begin at 3:00 PM, with services to follow at 4:00 PM. The family requests casual attire.

The family extends a special thanks to Lillian’s many doctors, with heartfelt recognition to her primary care physician, Dr. Liliane Kheng, for her exceptional care and compassion throughout the years.

She was also blessed by the caring staff and wonderful friends at the Regency at Puakea, who surrounded her with kindness, friendship, and support.

Deepest appreciation goes to the staff on the 3rd floor at Wilcox Memorial Hospital for providing compassionate care and helping keep her comfortable during her final days.

And to Pastor Phyllis Meighen for providing words of peace and comfort.

We are also deeply grateful to Bruce Hiraoka at Garden Island Mortuary for his support, guidance, and assistance with funeral arrangements during this difficult time.
