Obituary

S.J. Leinā'ala Compoc of Hanapēpē, Kaua'i, passed away peacefully on Kaua’i on October 5, 2026, at the age of 81. She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on July 30, 1945. A proud graduate of Waimea High School, Class of 1963, Leinā'ala enjoyed a long and dedicated career as an AirOps Administrative Assistant for PMRF before her retirement.

Lei will be best remembered for her selfless care, devotion, and boundless love for her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Music was her second language, and she shared her vocal gifts with the Kaua'i Chorale for many years. Deeply committed to serving her island community, she also dedicated much of her time as a board member and travel chaperone for the Kamehameha Schools Association of Kaua'i.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Akana; her mother, Ella Kamala Kekahuna; her sister, Mae "Tootsie" Rapoza; and her brother, Clinton "Dicky" Akana.

Lei is survived by her beloved husband, Paul Compoc; her sons, Kipi (Leah) Akana of Kaua'i, Kanamu (Rena) Akana of Honolulu, and Blaine "Pauly Boy" (Cindy) Compoc of Snohomish, Washington; and her daughters, Lei-Lin (Dale) Pigao of Kaua'i and Buffy (William) Trugillo of Kaua'i.

She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren: Royce Patrocinio, Makamae Compoc-Dela Cruz, Kamalei Compoc-Dela Cruz, Makena Compoc, Theryn Compoc, Brock Compoc, Kapili Akana, Kaya Akana, Zion Akana, Tai Ofisa, Kade Ofisa, and Sami Ofisa; her 4 great-grandchildren: Zhyrie-Lei Patrocinio, Kalawai'a Dela Cruz, Kia'i Dela Cruz, and Kyce Ofisa; her sister, Pauline Kupo of Kekaha; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, January 24, 2027, at Lawai Valley Seventh-day Adventist Church. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM, with services to follow at 12:00 PM. Private burial will take place at a later date. The family requests Aloha attire, and flowers are welcome. The 'ohana warmly invites all attendees to join them for lunch and to launa following the services.
